Auto-Ringing Menu Items When Starting a Table in NX Restaurant
NX Restaurant allows you to automatically ring a specific menu item when a table is opened in the POS. This feature is particularly useful for timed or fixed-charge items such as:
- Pool tables
- Room rentals
- Hourly activities or experiences
When a table is opened, the assigned item will be automatically added to the check—ensuring charges are not missed and improving operational consistency.
Use Case Example: Pool Tables
Let’s say your venue rents pool tables by the minute or hour. You can set up each pool table in the system so that when it’s opened, a timed menu item (configured to track per-minute use) is automatically added to the order. This eliminates manual entry and ensures the timer begins right away.

How to Auto-Ring a Menu Item for a Table
Step 1: Configure the Timed Menu Item
First, create a Time-Based Menu Item (see the Setting Up Time-Based Items article):
- Go to: Configuration > Menus > Items
- Enable Time based item
- Set rounding preferences and price points
Step 2: Assign Auto-Ring Item to a Table
- Go to: Venue > Floor Plans > Tables
- Select or create the table (e.g., “Pool Table 1”)
- Scroll to the Auto-Ring Item setting
- Select the time-based menu item you want to auto-ring
- Click Save
Now, when this table is selected in the POS, the assigned item will ring automatically and—if it’s a timed item—begin timing immediately.
Additional Notes
- You can configure guest count prompts, default areas, and other table settings at the same time.
- The Auto-Ring feature works seamlessly with Timed Item Rounding and Price Points to ensure pricing is accurate.
