Setting Up Payment Devices in NX Restaurant
Getting your payment hardware set up correctly is the final piece of the puzzle to start ringing up sales. In the NX platform, we treat payment terminals as individual devices that you can then assign to your POS stations.
To get started, navigate to Venue > Devices > Payment Devices in the side menu.
1. Identify Your Hardware
The setup process varies slightly depending on which physical device you are using in your restaurant:
IDTech VP3350: This is our standard, versatile reader. It is typically connected directly to your terminal via USB.
PAX A35: Often used in higher-volume quick service environments, this device connects to your system via Ethernet.
2. Device Identification & Mode
Once you click into a payment device, you will need to fill out the following "Identity" fields:
Name: Give the device a clear name so you can find it later (e.g., "Front Counter VP3350").
Secure Device ID: Select the specific device type as it is addressed by our payment processor, Datacap (e.g., "Emv vp3350 datacap").
Mode: Ensure this is set to Production to process real live transactions.
3. Device Communication (Interface)
This section tells NX how to "talk" to the reader:
Interface: Choose how the station communicates with the device.
Select Usb for the VP3350.
Select Ethernet for the PAX A35.
4. Device Info
For record-keeping and support, you will find the manufacturer and model information here:
Manufacturer: For the VP3350, this is IDTech.
Model: Input the specific model number, such as VP3350.
Pro-Tip: Finalizing the Link
Simply creating the device in this menu doesn't make it active on your POS. Once you have saved these settings, you must go to Devices > POS Devices, select your specific terminal, and "attach" this new payment device to that station. On the physical station the payment device will auto provision with app relaunch or you can force provisioning by tapping the Cloud Icon > Payments > Config Pay Device.
