Setting Up a Cash Drawer in the NX Portal
Cash drawers in the NX ecosystem are hardware devices used to manage and store cash transactions. Each drawer is connected to a printer, which acts as the trigger mechanism for opening the drawer. This article explains how to configure a cash drawer in the NX Portal.
Overview

Cash drawers connect to configured printers (USB, Ethernet, or Wi-Fi).

You can connect up to two drawers per printer.

Printer devices must be set up first under:
Configuration > Devices > Printing > Printer Devices.
1. Navigate to the Drawers Configuration

Log in to the NX Portal.

From the navigation menu, go to:
Devices > Drawers

You will see a list of existing drawers.

Click New Item to create a drawer, or use the pencil icon to edit an existing one.
2. Enter Drawer Details

Name:
Enter a clear and recognizable name for the drawer.
Examples: Barista Drawer, Cantina Drawer, Nexus Drawer.
3. Select the Printer

From the Printer dropdown, choose a previously configured printer.

The printer must be set up under:
Configuration > Devices > Printing > Printer Devices

Supported printer types include:

USB
-
Ethernet

Wi-Fi

💡 Make sure the selected printer is physically connected to the drawer to enable open/close functionality.
4. Assign the Drawer Connection

Choose the drawer port via the Connection dropdown:

Drawer one

Drawer two

This determines which port on the printer the drawer is connected to.
5. Save the Configuration

After entering all the necessary information:

Click Save to finalize your settings.

6. Final Steps

Verify all physical connections between printer and drawer.
- Ensure to link the drawer to any stations that will be able to access it.

Run a test transaction from the POS to ensure the drawer opens correctly.

Provide staff with any required operational or security instructions.
