Understanding the Product Mix Report in NX
The Product Mix Report shows a complete breakdown of which menu items were sold — and how much of each — during one or more business days.
It’s a powerful tool for analyzing your sales performance, identifying your most popular items, and spotting those that may need attention.
This report can also be configured to include items that had no sales or that were sold for $0, helping venues ensure their menu and pricing setup is complete and accurate.
📘 Purpose of the Report
The Product Mix Report allows managers and owners to:
- Review item-level sales quantities and totals for a selected date range.
- Understand which categories drive revenue and which items are underperforming.
- See average selling prices and total discounts per item.
- Identify menu items that sold for $0 or didn’t sell at all (if enabled).
It’s commonly used for menu analysis, cost control, and sales performance review.
🧾 Report Layout
Each section of the report represents a Sales Category — for example, Food, Beer, Cocktails, or Retail.
Within each category, individual menu items are listed with details about quantity sold, price, and sales totals.
If the report is configured with Group by: NONE, all menu items appear together in a single combined list instead of being grouped by category.
This version of the report is configured to:
- ✅ Show items with 0 sales
- ✅ Show items that cost $0
🗂️ Columns Explained
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Item | The name of the menu item. |
| Qty | The total number of times the item was sold during the selected period. |
| Avg Price | The average selling price of the item. (Total Sales ÷ Quantity Sold) |
| Gross $ | The total sales value before any discounts. |
| Disc $ | The total amount of discounts applied to this item. |
| Net $ | The final total after discounts — the true revenue earned from this item. |
🔍 Example
Category: FOOD
| Item | Qty | Avg Price | Gross $ | Disc $ | Net $ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cheeseburger | 6 | $13.00 | $78.00 | $0.00 | $78.00 |
| Greek Salad | 10 | $14.00 | $140.00 | $0.00 | $140.00 |
| French Fries | 72 | $0.15 | $11.00 | $0.60 | $10.40 |
| Totals (Category) | 88 | — | $229.00 | $0.60 | $228.40 |
Each Sales Category ends with a Totals line showing total quantity sold, total gross, discounts, and final net sales for that group.
At the end of the report, you’ll also find Grand Totals across all categories combined.
🧮 Totals Section
The Totals Section provides a summary for both:
- Each Category – subtotaling sales and discounts per group.
- Entire Report – combining all categories for the complete venue view.
This helps identify which categories generate the most revenue and how discounts affect each.
