Employee Setup in the NX Restaurant Portal
The Employee configuration section in NX Restaurant allows you to create and manage employees, assign jobs, and control access to POS and portal features. This article covers how to create or edit an employee record and outlines the settings available in the General, Permissions, Alerts, and Dashboards tabs.
Accessing Employee Setup
Navigate to: Configuration > Labor > Employees
Click the + New button to create a new employee, or click the Edit icon on an existing employee to edit their details.
General Tab
The General tab captures essential employee details and employment configuration:
Required Fields
- POS Code: This is the access code the employee uses to log in to the POS.
- First Name
- Last Name
Optional Fields
- Status: Choose Active or Inactive. This will default to Active when creating a new employee.
- Middle Name, Email, Phone Number, and Address
- Birth Date and Start Date
- Emergency Contact Name and Phone Number
Job Assignment
Assign one or more jobs to the employee. Each job can be configured with:
- Job Name: Select a defined job.
- Pay Rate: Hourly rate or salary.
- Salaried Toggle: Set if this is a salaried position.
- Enforce Schedule: Toggle to require the employee to work only scheduled shifts.
When a job is assigned, the employee inherits the permissions tied to that job automatically.
Permissions Tab
This tab allows for fine-tuned control of individual employee permissions beyond job-based permissions.
- Permission Set (Optional): Assign a reusable permission set for the employee.
- Permissions: Manually select additional or override permissions in categories like POS, Labor, and Financials.
Permissions set here will apply in conjunction with any job or permission set assignments.
Alerts Tab
Configure alert subscriptions for the employee:
- To receive SMS alerts, ensure the Phone Number field is filled in.
- To receive Email alerts, ensure the Email field is filled in.
- Alerts can include shift reminders, sales notifications, or other labor-related notifications.
Dashboards Tab
This tab is used to control dashboard access within the NX Restaurant portal. It is typically configured for managers or supervisors who need access to labor and performance metrics.
Only saved Dashboards will be displayed. Dashboards can be setup for an Enterprise under Financial > Dashboards.
Additional Notes
- To enable portal access, the employee must have a job or permissions that include portal privileges and a valid email address.
- If using SMS alerts, ensure the phone number is saved under contact info.
Saving Changes
After making any updates, select Save in the lower right corner to apply the changes. Use Cancel to discard edits and return to the job list.
