Configuring Jobs: Permissions Tab in NX Restaurant Portal
The Permissions tab in Job configuration allows you to control which actions employees can or cannot perform while using the POS or portal. These controls define what employees with a specific job title can access or change and can be used in combination with Permission Sets for more flexible and efficient management.
What Are Permissions?
Permissions are specific rules that allow or restrict an employee’s ability to take actions in the system—such as opening drawers, change settings, or editing orders. Managing permissions ensures your staff can only perform tasks that align with their job responsibilities.
Using Permission Sets
At the top of the Permissions tab, you can assign a Permission Set to the job. A Permission Set is a reusable group of permissions that can be shared across multiple jobs or employees.
💡 Assigning a Permission Set helps standardize access across similar roles—like Server, Cashier, or Manager—while still allowing job-level overrides if needed.
Job-Level Permissions
Below the Permission Set dropdown is a list of individual permissions. These are grouped by functional category (e.g., POS, Orders, Checks), and each permission includes:
- Name: The specific action (e.g., Accountability Drawer: Close)
- Description: What the permission enables or restricts
- Toggle box: To enable, disable, or disallow the permission for this job
Example Permissions:
Change Order Type – Allow the employee to switch between Dine In, To-Go, etc.
Check Items: Bypass Delete Prompt – Skip confirmation prompt when deleting items.
How It Works with Permission Sets
When a Permission Set is assigned, the job inherits those settings. You can then:
- Leave them as-is (using the set as the source of truth)
- Override specific permissions for the job (if a different behavior is needed)

Saving Changes
After making any updates, select Save in the lower right corner to apply the changes. Use Cancel to discard edits and return to the job list.
