Keeping Your Floor in Sync: Automated Order Locking Warnings 🔒🍔
In a high-volume restaurant, teamwork is everything—but sometimes two servers or bartenders might try to access and modify the exact same guest check at the same time. While the NX platform naturally handles multi-user edits, jumping into a ticket that a teammate is actively updating can lead to accidentally double-ordering drinks or ringing up duplicate entrees.
To give your team better situational awareness and protect your ticket accuracy, we've rolled out a brand-new feature: Order Locking Warnings.
🛑 How It Works: Clear, Instant Alerts
Starting in version NX 26.06.20 and newer, the system monitors active order screens across all terminal hardware in your venue.
If you open a guest check that another staff member currently has active on a different terminal screen, NX will instantly display a clear warning popup directly over the menu grid.
📝 What the Screen Displays
As seen in the terminal capture below, the pop-up clearly identifies exactly who is working on the ticket and where they are logged in:
"Julie S. is already working this Order on JS (NX15). You can still make changes — make sure you have the right Order."
💡 Remember: It's Just a Warning!
This feature is designed for floor coordination, not a rigid lockout. Clicking the blue Continue button allows you to bypass the alert and make adjustments immediately. This ensures that a server can seamlessly add a quick round of drinks or print a guest checkout receipt even if a bartender still has the order open across the room.
🛠️ Operational Benefits for Your Shift
Eliminate Duplicate Rings: Prevents staff from ringing up an extra round of appetizers or cocktails because they didn't realize a teammate was already handling the guest's request.
Seamless Server Staggering: Makes section handoffs or multi-server team zones incredibly efficient by flashing a quick, friendly heads-up before anyone edits a shared table's cart.
Airtight Check Auditing: Keeps the line of communication wide open between your front-of-house floor staff and your service bar, preventing double-tendering or mixed-up billing adjustments.

Can we turn this warning off for specific fast-casual checkout counters?
The Order Locking Warning is an automated safety net hardcoded into the terminal framework starting with version 26.06.20 to protect checkout accuracy. Because it only requires a single tap on the Continue button to bypass, it keeps your workflows fast while providing essential shift security!
Why did I get this warning if my teammate swears they closed the ticket?
If a server steps away from a terminal screen without fully hitting the Hold, Stay, or Send buttons to park the ticket, the system will consider that order "actively open" on that device until the terminal's configured auto-logout sequence triggers. Remind your team to always park their checks when walking away from a terminal! 🏃♂️💨
