🌐 Changing Device Modes in NX
NX Devices can operate in multiple modes depending on how the station is used in your venue. Whether you're switching a tablet to KDS Mode, placing a station into Kiosk Mode, or using Demo Mode (POS No Subscription) for troubleshooting, NX provides two easy methods for changing modes:

2️⃣ From the NX Portal
This article walks you through both methods.

- KDS (Kitchen Display System) Mode
- Kiosk Mode
- Menu Board Mode
- POS No Subscription (Demo Mode)
📱 Changing Mode From the NX App
You can quickly change a device’s mode directly from the station by accessing the Device Info panel.
1. Open the Cloud Menu ☁️
From the login screen or within the NX App, tap the Cloud icon located at the top-right corner of the screen.
2. Select “Device Info” 📲
In the Info menu, tap Device Info.
3. Tap “Change Mode” 🔄
At the bottom of the Device Info pop-up, select Change Mode.
4. Choose the New Mode 🎛️
A menu will appear allowing you to select one of the supported modes:
- POS Mode
- KDS Mode
- Kiosk Mode
- Menu Board Mode
- POS No Subscription (Demo Mode)
- Tip: Swipe right to access POS No Subscription, which is helpful for setup or demo purposes without consuming a subscription seat.
5. Confirm the Change ✔️
The device will switch modes and refresh into the selected view.
🖥️ Changing Mode From the NX Portal
Device modes can also be changed remotely through the NX Portal, which is especially helpful for centralized IT teams managing multiple locations.
1. Navigate to POS Devices
Go to:
NX Portal → Venue → Devices → POS Devices
2. Select a Device
Click on the device you want to update.
3. Change the Default Mode & Current Mode ⚙️
Inside the device settings:
- Default Mode
Determines which mode the device uses after reboot. - Current Mode
Updates the active mode immediately on the device.
4. Choose a Supported Mode
From the dropdown, select:
- POS
- KDS
- Kiosk
- Menu Board
- POS No Subscription (Demo Mode)
Then click Save.
💡 Note: Only the modes listed above are fully supported at this time.
📝 Important Notes
- 🔄 Mode changes may momentarily interrupt current activity. Ensure stations are not in the middle of orders or payments.
- 🔐 User permissions may restrict who can change device modes.
- 🌙 Display mode (Light/Dark) is separate from functional device mode and can be configured independently.
