Overriding Printer Formats by Order Type
In NX Restaurant, printer formats define how information is printed on remote kitchen tickets or other output devices. While each Routing Destination has a default printer format assigned, you can override these defaults on a per–Order Type basis. This is especially useful for customizing the appearance of tickets based on where or how the order was placed, such as for dine-in, takeout, or delivery orders.
Where to Set Overrides
- To configure printer format overrides:
- Navigate to Configuration > Ordering > Order Types.
- Select the Order Type (e.g., Take Out).
- Then select Printer Formats tab.
- Under Printer Format Overrides, you can assign a specific printer format to each Routing Destination.
🔧 Note: Printer Formats must first be created in Configuration > Printing > Formats.
🖨️ The default formats for routing destinations are set in Configuration > Printing > Routing > Destinations.
Customizing Output per Routing Destination
For each Order Type, you can:
- Add one or more Routing Destinations.
- Assign a different Printer Format to each destination to override the default behavior.
This enables you to fully control the formatting of printed tickets for specific scenarios.
For example:
- Use a more compact format for takeout orders.
- Highlight guest information or allergens for delivery.
- Print in a different color or layout for bar vs. kitchen printers.
Best Practices
- Use descriptive names for printer formats to ensure they are easily identifiable.
- Test overridden formats for each order type to confirm proper layout.
- Limit overrides to routing destinations where customization is truly needed to keep configuration manageable.
By tailoring printer formats per order type and routing destination, operators can ensure that the information presented to kitchen and service staff is clear, relevant, and suited to the flow of operations.
