Setting Up Order Types in NX Restaurant
Order Types in NX Restaurant allow you to classify different kinds of orders for both reporting and workflow customization. Whether it’s dine-in, takeout, delivery, or a special-purpose classification like “Coffee Shop,” each Order Type can be configured with its own behaviors and visual styling.
You can configure Order Types in the NX Restaurant portal by navigating to:
Configuration > Ordering > Order Types
General Tab
The General tab is where you define the core attributes of an Order Type:
Order Type Settings
- Name: Internal name of the order type, shown on POS and reports.
- Taxable: When enabled, taxes will be applied to this order type.
- Tipped: When enabled, sales will be counted toward tip reporting.
Additional Options
- Prompt Customer: Prompt the user to enter saved customer info.
- Customer Required: Require a customer to be selected before sending the order.
- Delivery: Indicates whether the order is a delivery.
Order Type Fee (Optional)
You can attach a Fee (configured separately under Ordering > Fees) to apply automatically when this order type is used.
Appearance
Header Color: Color of the order header as it appears on the POS.
Text Color: Font color on the header.
Icon: Icon used on the POS to visually identify the order type.
Prompts Tab
The Prompts tab allows you to request additional information from the guest or employee at two points:
- Pre-Order Prompts: Information required before the order is started.
- Post-Order Prompts: Information required when the order is sent or paid.
Available prompt types include:
- Guest Name
- Phone
- Order Type
You can mark any prompt as Required to ensure it must be completed before the order proceeds.
Use Cases
Order Types are useful for:
- Segmenting sales for operational or financial reporting
- Automatically applying fees (e.g., service charges for room service)
- Differentiating guest flows (e.g., dine-in vs. pick-up)
- Requiring contact information for delivery or loyalty tracking
