📺 Setting Up a Virtual Screen Printer in NX

NX now supports a Virtual Screen Printer — a printer type that outputs printed content directly to the POS device’s screen instead of a physical printer. This is incredibly helpful for testing, setups without printers, or environments where visual-only printing is desired.
This feature works for all print job types, including:

✔️ Guest receipts
✔️ Card vouchers
✔️ Remote chits

🧩 What Is a Virtual Screen Printer?

A Screen Printer is a special printer type inside NX.
Instead of sending print jobs to physical hardware, NX will “print” the output directly onto the device's screen — just like a standard print preview.

This is great for:

👉 Mobile setups (handhelds/tablets)
👉 Operators who want to verify print behavior visually

🛠️ Step 1 — Create a Printer of Type Screen

1. Navigate to Configuration → Printing → Printers & KDS
2. Select New Printer
3. Set:
   • Name: anything you want (ex: Screen, Virtual Printer, etc.)
   • Type: Screen 🖥️
4. Save ✔️

🖨️ Step 2 — Assign the Screen Printer to a POS Device (for Receipts)

If you want receipts printed to the current station’s screen:

1. Navigate to Devices → POS Devices
2. Select your POS station
3. Go to the Peripherals tab
4. Choose Receipt Printer → Screen
5. Save 💾

Now all guest receipts from this device will display on-screen!

🧑‍🍳 Step 3 — Route Remote Chits to the Screen Printer

If you'd like kitchen chits or bar chits to also display on screen:

1. Visit Configuration → Printing → Routing → Destinations
2. Select the desired Destination (ex: Screen)
3. Under Destination Device, choose Screen
4. Save 🎉

This allows all items routed to that destination to print to the on-screen printer.

🔍 How the Screen Printer Appears in NX

When a print job fires:
