Using the Split by Position Command in NX Restaurant POS
The Split by Position command allows servers to automatically split a check based on the seating positions (guest seats) assigned to items during order entry. This is especially useful in full-service environments where guests request separate checks for their individual meals.
This function is available from either the Order Screen or the Pay Screen, depending on how the Area has been configured in the NX Portal.
Prerequisites
Before using this feature, ensure the following are in place:
- ✅ Positions are enabled for the Area in the NX Restaurant Portal.
- For setup instructions, see: 🔗 Enabling Split by Position by Area
- ✅ The server has entered a guest count and assigned position numbers to items while placing the order.
- ✅ Split by pos has been added to the Order Entry or Pay Commands for the Area.
How to Use Split by Position
Open the Order
- Log in to the POS and open the desired table or order from the active order list.
- Access the Command Depending on your Area settings, do one of the following:
- From the Order Screen, tap the Split by pos button at the bottom of the screen.
-
From the Pay Screen, tap the Split by pos command option.
Confirm the Split
A confirmation prompt will appear, indicating how many new seats (checks) will be created based on item positions. Tap Confirm to proceed.
Review the Seats The system will split the order into multiple seats, each containing the items for its corresponding position number. These seats can now be closed out individually.
Example
If a server rings in the following:
- Filet Mignon for Position 1
- Filet Mignon for Position 2
Tapping Split by pos will result in two separate checks:
- Seat 1: Filet Mignon (Pos 1)
- Seat 2: Filet Mignon (Pos 2)
Each seat will now have its own balance and can be paid for independently.
Tips
- Use Split by pos early to speed up checkout later.
- Combine with Position Sharing for items meant to be shared among guests.
- Use the Print button after splitting to provide guests with individual checks.
