Epson TM-U220 Impact Printer – Self-Test Procedure
Running a self-test on the Epson TM-U220 impact printer is a useful way to confirm that the printer is functioning correctly. The self-test checks key internal functions including control circuits, printer mechanisms, print quality, firmware version, and DIP switch settings. Since this test is performed without any connection to a POS system or external software, it’s a valuable troubleshooting step both during initial setup and when issues arise.
Note: If the self-test completes successfully, any printing issues are likely caused by software settings or external hardware, not the printer itself.
How to Perform a Self-Test
Follow these steps to run the self-test on your Epson TM-U220 printer:
- Power off the printer.
- Make sure the printer is turned off using the power switch on the front panel. Ensure the roll paper cover is properly closed.
- Start the self-test.
- Hold down the FEED button.
- While holding the button, turn on the printer using the power switch.
- The printer will begin printing the self-test report, which includes the current settings and status. It will then pause, cut the paper, and blink the PAPER OUT light.
- Continue the test.
- Press the FEED button again to continue printing.
- A character pattern will print using the built-in font set.
- End of self-test.
- The printer will automatically print *** completed ***, cut the paper, and exit the self-test mode.
Once complete, the printer is ready to receive print jobs.
