Clearing a Printer Auto-cutter Jam – Epson TM-U220
If a small foreign object (such as a push pin, paper clip, or staple) falls into the auto-cutter area of the Epson TM-U220 impact printer, the printer may enter an error state causing missed or rerouted print jobs. In many cases, the printer attempts to recover automatically by returning the auto-cutter blade to its normal position.
If the auto-cutter does not return to its normal position on its own, follow the steps below to clear the jam and reset the printer.
Steps to Clear an Auto-cutter Jam
- Open the roll paper cover.
- Remove any foreign object or jammed paper from inside the printer.
- Reset the printer.
- Turn off the printer.
- Close the roll paper cover.
- Turn the printer back on.
- The cutter blade should automatically return to the normal position.
- Manually return the cutter blade (if needed). If the cutter blade does not reset on its own:
- Locate the auto-cutter knob on the printer.
- Rotate the knob in the direction of the arrow until the blade returns to the normal position.
- A metal lever will align in the center of the hole in the cutter frame once it’s correctly positioned.
- Close the roll paper cover. The printer should now return to a ready state.
