Setting Up a USB Thermal Printer in NX Restaurant
USB thermal printers are commonly used in NX Restaurant for printing guest receipts, payment and function vouchers, shift reports, or even remote prep tickets (e.g., bar or coffee). This article walks you through setting up a USB thermal printer in the Printers & KDS section of the NX Restaurant portal.
Prerequisites
- Ensure the printer is connected via USB to an Android POS device running NX Restaurant.
- Make sure the printer is powered on and loaded with paper.
- If this is the first time connecting the printer, Android will prompt for USB authorization. You must grant access for NX Restaurant to use the device, or it will remain unreachable.
Steps to Set Up a USB Thermal Printer
- Go to Venue > Devices > Printers & KDS.
- Click New (or open an existing printer to edit).
General Settings
- Name: Enter a descriptive name (e.g., Barista Printer or Guest Receipt Printer).
- Type: Select Thermal Epson.
- Model: Choose the model (e.g., Epson tm m30iii).
- Serial # (optional): Enter the printer’s serial number for tracking purposes.
Interface Settings
- Interface: Select USB.
- POS Device: Choose the POS device this printer is connected to (e.g., JS (Nexus)).
- Backup Printer (Optional) Select a backup printer to automatically receive jobs if this printer is down or unreachable.
- Click Save.
Next Steps
Once saved, the printer can be:
- Assigned to a POS Device to handle functions like printing receipts and reports from that station.
- Assigned to a Destination for remote printing (e.g., bar or coffee prep).
USB Authorization Reminder
When the USB printer is plugged in for the first time:
Android will display a prompt asking whether to allow NX Restaurant to access the USB device. Tap “Allow”. If you deny access, the printer will not be usable until access is granted.
If the printer is not printing after setup, verify that USB access was authorized. You may need to disconnect and reconnect the printer to trigger the prompt again.
