NX Restaurant - Release 26.08

π What's New
π Network Outage Improvements
Several improvements make it harder for a network problem to go unnoticed β and easier to act on it when it happens.
- The notification bell now shows problems with the device you're standing at, not just venue-wide messages. Kitchen tickets that haven't gone anywhere, a print queue that has stopped clearing, and how long the terminal has been offline all appear there β alongside a plain-English description of what's actually wrong. A router that has stopped resolving names now says so, instead of "no internet connection found."
- Critical problems β orders the kitchen will never receive, or a terminal offline with tickets queued β now get through even on screens that normally hide notifications (including Order Entry) and on devices set to hide notifications entirely. Less serious alerts still respect those settings.
- Tickets that have sat undelivered long enough to be refused as stale are called out as lost, not just late β because the instruction is different. Food is not being made and re-firing is the only fix. The server also now reports tickets it actually threw away, so a ticket refused after leaving the register is named too. Everything is recorded permanently for support.
- Pressing Send while offline now warns the employee before the order goes β the kitchen won't see it yet, and staff should say something if it's needed now. The warning repeats roughly every five minutes for the duration of the outage, so staff arriving mid-outage still see it.
- A device that lost its connection was retrying at a fixed interval regardless of how long the outage had lasted β one device made 2,821 reconnection attempts in a single afternoon. Retries now space out as an outage continues and snap back to normal the moment it recovers.
- A time card that can't be reached while offline no longer reports itself as missing. "Can't check right now" and "doesn't exist" are now correctly distinguished.
- The last couple of minutes of diagnostic logging now survive a device restart, so the window that matters most β right before a reboot β is no longer lost.
π Restore a Voided Item
A voided item can now be undeleted. Swiping leftward (from right to left) on a voided item will now prompt the employee to restore the item as active (back to Fired if it had already reached the kitchen, or Held if it hadn't), and leaves the price, quantity, and any discount untouched. The check recalculates to exactly what it would show if the item had never been voided. Requires the same permission used for managing void reasons.
π Gratuity Prompt for Multi-Seat Checks
When adding a gratuity to a check with more than one seat, the app now asks whether the gratuity should apply to every seat or only the currently selected one. Choosing every seat distributes the full gratuity across all guests β a percent gratuity works out to the full percentage of the whole check, and a fixed amount is added per seat. Seats that are already paid or empty are automatically skipped. Single-seat and large-party automatic gratuities are unchanged.
π Swipe Between Floor Plans
A venue with several floor plans can now swipe left or right across the plan to move between them β patio, bar, main dining β without tapping the name row each time. The highlighted plan name follows the swipe, and the plans cycle continuously so staff can always swipe the same direction.
π Customer Name on KDS V3 Tickets
A new per-station option adds the customer's name to the top of KDS V3 tickets whenever a customer is attached to the order. Off by default; configured in the station's KDS settings in the portal.
βΈοΈ Held Items on Kitchen Display β Per-Station Control
Showing held items on the KDS is now a per-station setting. Stations that only want actionable work don't see preview tickets; stations that want advance notice can have it. Each held line now shows a hand icon, firing one held item correctly removes it from the preview while the rest stay, and orders where every item is held now show on the kitchen display at all. Off by default for existing stations.
π¬ Discount Reason Required
A discount can now be configured to require a reason before it's applied β from the discount list or from a tile. The reason stays attached to the discounted item for reporting. Applies only to manually applied discounts; automatic, loyalty, and reward discounts are unaffected. Requires the "require note" option to be set in the portal.
π Refunds Now Appear in the Refunds List
Refunds now appear in the Manager View Refunds list immediately after they're processed and sync to the cloud. Previously the refund record was never saved anywhere, causing staff to run refunds twice and double-refund guests. Money was never affected β totals and vouchers were always correct. Refunds taken before this update won't appear retroactively.
π½οΈ Online & Delivery Orders Now Reach Crunchtime Kitchen
Orders from online ordering, DoorDash, UberEats, and other delivery partners now appear on Crunchtime (QSR Automations) kitchen screens alongside in-store orders. Requires one terminal to be nominated in the portal. When a delivery partner cancels an order, the ticket is pulled from the KDS screen. Requires portal configuration.
π¨ HTNG Hotel PMS Integration
Room Charge can now post to hotel property-management systems that speak the HTNG interface β Opera Cloud, Infor, Agilysys, Maestro, StayNTouch, and Mews β joining the three hotel interfaces already supported. Requires hotel integration configuration in the portal.
π Split Order Permissions
Moving items or payments in the Split Order screen now checks permissions. Item moves require the Transfer Items permission; payment moves require the new Transfer Payments permission. Both support manager override. Partners should grant Transfer Payments to any job that needs to move payments β without it, a manager override will be required each time.
πͺ Host β Permission Required to Add Parties and Reservations
Adding a waitlist party or reservation in Host now checks permissions. The two new Create Party and Create Reservation permissions must be granted to jobs that need them; employees without one get the standard manager-approval prompt. Editing existing entries is unaffected.
π Delivery Directions Redesigned
The driving directions screen now shows distance, drive time, pick-up and drop-off addresses, and turn-by-turn directions as a numbered list. The previous map-based screen crashed on fixed 15" stations; the redesigned screen works everywhere. Texting or printing directions is unchanged.
π‘ Tip Suggestion Buttons Show Rate and Dollar Amount
Percentage-based tip buttons on the guest-facing screen now show the rate and the actual dollar amount. Custom tip button names appear as a smaller third line rather than hiding the percentage. Also fixed: a blank tip button on smaller checks at venues with a flat-amount threshold, and flat-dollar buttons with an empty first line.
π¨οΈ Lost Kitchen Tickets Recovered on Restart
Each station now checks on startup β and once per minute after that β for kitchen tickets addressed to it that were handed over while it was down and never printed, and prints them. Tickets already printed by another station are never picked up again. Tickets older than five minutes are left alone.
πΊ Menu Board Settings Accessible via Hidden Gesture
On a tablet set up as a menu board, tapping three times in the top-right corner of the screen now opens Device Info β so network, printer, and version details can be checked and the board can be reconfigured without re-provisioning the device. Works while the board is loading or showing "not configured." Nothing else on the board is tappable.
π Bug Fixes
- Fixed an issue where changing a menu item's modifier setup in the portal would block any open order that already had that item rung and sent to the kitchen, demanding a modifier choice that can no longer be made. Required modifiers are now only enforced on items not yet sent to the kitchen.
- Fixed an issue where a terminal could refuse to start any new order for hours after a check-start prompt was closed mid-flow (by a logout or inactivity timeout), showing "please wait, check is already being started" until the app was reloaded from the cloud. The guard now expires on its own after 30 seconds of inactivity.
- Fixed a major issue where a To-Go order could show $0.00 after being marked ready for pickup, then refuse every payment attempt with "closed or paid on another device" β even though no other device had touched it. The same root cause also caused transfers and held item fires from the Tab List and drive-thru screens to silently move nothing and zero the totals on both orders, and floor plan table drags to not work.
- Fixed an issue where removing all discounts only cleared the currently highlighted line, leaving every other discounted line untouched. On one check this meant a $143.90 discount survived thirteen presses of Remove by two managers before the check was closed still carrying it. Remove All now clears every discounted line on the seat.
- Fixed an issue where a fixed-dollar discount set to "Selected Items" or "All Items" applies the entered amount to each line individually β so entering $20 on 10 items applies $200 total. This now shows a confirmation with the total before applying.
- Fixed an issue where an open percent discount opened a dollar keypad instead of a percent keypad, read the input as a dollar amount, and applied $0.00 with no warning β while the same discount applied from its own tile worked correctly.
- Fixed an issue where a discount applied just before printing and closing a check could appear correctly on the receipt and header total while the individual items and seat totals silently kept the full undiscounted price β visible only in the portal's order viewer.
- Fixed an issue where voiding a payment or item on a closed order didn't update the order's balance, leaving it closed with money still showing as owed.
- Fixed an issue where swapping a required choice (such as a protein pick) before an item was sent would leave the previous choice's price on the order β invisible on screen but still adding to the subtotal and what the guest was charged.
- Fixed an issue where ringing the same item twice in quick succession could silently strand the first item β never sent to the kitchen, never charged, and never flagged as removed.
- Fixed an issue where fees carried by an order didn't match the sales report β changing order type added a duplicate fee, adding/removing items left a stale fee amount, and voiding left the fee on an empty order. Fee records now refresh from the same calculation used to charge the guest.
- Fixed an issue where finalizing a pre-authorized tab at a cash-discount venue charged the cash price instead of the card price, leaving the order owing the discount amount.
- Fixed an issue where the guest display at a cash-discount venue showed the cash price under the card icon and the card price under the cash icon.
- Fixed an issue where the phone number box on the order details screen refused corrections once it held a stored number, and where the guest suggestion list covered the keyboard while typing.
- Fixed an issue where doubling a modifier showed the modifier name twice on the kitchen chit, receipt, and check screen instead of showing "Double."
- Fixed an issue where repeating an item with modifiers sent the item to QSR Automations but silently dropped some or all of the modifiers from the kitchen ticket.
- Fixed an issue where scheduled/promise-time online orders were rejected by QSR Automations because the order and its items arrived as separate messages. They now go across together in a single message.
- Fixed an issue where removing a payment or item from a closed order didn't clear the balance, leaving the order closed and showing money still owed.
- Fixed an issue where a blank $0.00 phantom line could appear on an order and couldn't be deleted β the terminal now omits lines with neither an item nor a name from display, pricing, kitchen output, and reporting.
- Fixed an issue where a table could stay showing the orange held marker on the floor plan long after all held items were sent, surviving overnight into the next business day.
- Fixed an issue where a check closed to Exact Cash could remain showing as open in online order views and reports. The close now stays flagged for upload and is retried even if an older server copy arrives in the meantime.
- Fixed an issue where a satisfied required modifier appeared as missing after an item was moved between seats, blocking the send.
- Fixed an issue where online and delivery orders silently stopped printing to the kitchen printer on a station that appeared fully healthy.
- Fixed an issue where the Split Order commands on a handheld were invisible in dark mode.
- Fixed an issue where the shift review screen on a handheld crushed all content into a narrow column. On handhelds the two halves now stack vertically.
- Fixed an issue where a menu item with an unfinished quantity option in the portal was silently skipped on the terminal and never recovered.
- Fixed a crash when opening any screen with a phone field pre-filled with a formatted number or country code.
- Fixed a crash when a menu board was edited down to fewer pages while still rotating.
- Fixed an issue where held items appeared twice on the KDS.
- Fixed an issue where clearing a QSR Automations kitchen server address in the portal crashed every terminal at the venue when the change synced.
- Fixed an issue where the KDS tablet also driving its own bump printer couldn't identify itself as a kitchen display, causing bumped tickets to clear from the screen without printing.
- Fixed an issue where driving directions crashed on fixed 15" stations.
- Fixed an issue where a terminal could quietly stop responding to remote support log requests after a brief Wi-Fi drop, with no error visible and no way to recover without restarting the app.
- Fixed an issue where a terminal could fail to launch after running for an extended period, requiring a device restart. The app now handles the condition gracefully and reports it to the cloud.
- Fixed a runaway sync loop where a single order could trigger continuous background saves β one $4.00 online order sent itself to the cloud roughly 45,000 times in 25 minutes on every register in the building simultaneously, slowing down all other operations.
- Fixed an issue where floor plan labels, images, and decorative shapes were intercepting taps, blocking swipes and making underlying tables unreachable.
- Fixed a new device jumping past the setup screen to the login screen before a venue was assigned, leaving the device with no way to proceed on locked-down hardware.
- Fixed an issue where NX Kitchen devices with large font sizes and orders with a large quantity of items could result in some items being excluded from the view.

π Additional Supported Languages
Operating a busy restaurant means managing a diverse team and welcoming guests from all walks of life! With NX Restaurant, your point-of-sale system isn't locked into just one language. A Spanish-reading server can effortlessly enter orders on a Spanish terminal screen, while the guest at the same table views their pay screen in English, and the line cooks receive printed tickets at the kitchen station in Vietnameseβall happening simultaneously on the exact same system! Speak Your Language: How to Use Multi-Language Features in NX
Β
π Gratuity Prompt for Multi-Seat Checks
When adding a gratuity to a check with more than one seat, the app now asks whether the gratuity should apply to every seat or only the currently selected one. Choosing every seat ensures the full gratuity is distributed across all guests β a percent gratuity works out to the full percentage of the whole check, and a fixed amount is added per seat (the prompt makes this clear). Seats that are already paid or empty are automatically skipped. Applying to a single seat and the automatic large-party gratuity work exactly as before.
Β
π΅ Cash Advance Support
Venues can now provide guests with cash advances for items such as lotto, pool tables, dart machines and more. Providing Guest Cash Advances: The Complete POS Guide
Β
πΊ Customer Name on KDS Tickets
A new per-station option adds the customer's name to the top of KDS V3 tickets whenever a customer is attached to the order β using the delivery name if there is one, otherwise the guest name on the check. Off by default; configured in the station's KDS settings in the portal.
Β
π‘ PAX Terminal Host-Connectivity Indicator
The PAX A3700 guest terminal now shows a small dot in the bottom-left corner β green while it's receiving updates from the paired POS, red if the host goes quiet. Makes it immediately obvious when a terminal has lost contact with its station without having to guess.
Β
πΌοΈ Menu Item Images on Order Entry Buttons
Menu item, modifier, and included-item buttons in Order Entry can now show the item's photo as the button background, with the item name printed over it in automatically-chosen black or white text for legibility. Menu category and modifier group buttons do the same when they have an image of their own. Items without photos keep their normal colored buttons, so a partly-photographed menu still looks tidy. Enabled per area with the "Display Item Image" setting in the portal; off by default.

π Bug Fixes
- Fixed an issue where a PAX A3700 terminal paired to a POS that had no on-screen guest display of its own never received order updates β the terminal loaded the venue but never showed rung or selected orders.
- Fixed an issue where an order paid right after attaching a customer could remain showing as open with a $0.00 balance, because the background save triggered by attaching the customer could overwrite the closed state with an older snapshot.
- Fixed an issue where removing all unsent items from an order (by backing out of order entry, logging out, clocking out, or screen timeout) left the order stuck open with a balance and no items β which couldn't be paid or closed without recording an unpaid amount.
- Fixed an issue where transferring an order that had unsent items left those items behind with the original server. When that server then backed out or logged out, the items were discarded and the kitchen never received them β guests waited for food nobody was making. Transferring an order now requires unsent items to be sent first.
- Fixed an issue where keyboard input at the login screen was treated as card reader input, causing each key press to submit a login attempt and β on jobs requiring card or NFC sign-in β allowing a typed access code to incorrectly satisfy that requirement.
- Fixed an issue where a payment type configured to refuse partial approvals was being ignored at the card reader. A card with only part of the balance available could come back partially approved, leaving the order appearing paid when it wasn't. The tender's setting is now passed through to the reader correctly.
- Fixed an issue where a card reader that stopped responding left the payment screen stuck on "Processing" indefinitely with no explanation. The app now recognizes an unresponsive reader and tells the operator to restart the station.
- Fixed an issue where a modifier removed before sending an order could still print on the Expo Bump kitchen chit, even though it correctly didn't appear on the kitchen display or the receipt.
- Fixed an issue where the customer-facing secondary display would revert to mirroring the cashier's screen after a remote-support session ended via Esper Remote Control. The app now distinguishes between the remote-control overlay disconnecting and the actual guest display going away, and restores the guest display automatically without requiring a relaunch.
- Fixed an issue where a handheld with failing Wi-Fi would blame healthy stations for its own connectivity problems and stop routing kitchen tickets through them. The app now checks its own connection first and won't sideline other stations while its own connection is down.
- Fixed an issue where the on-device Shift Summary was overstating Net Sales and Net Cash by the amount of any cash advances made during the shift. Advances are now kept out of Net Sales, subtracted from expected drawer cash, and shown as their own Cash Advances line in Cash Reconciliation and Accountability.
- Fixed an issue where voiding an item on an already-closed order left the order's tax and subtotal frozen at the pre-void amount, causing the Daily Sales Report tax column to disagree with the taxable amount column.
- Fixed an issue where transferring every item off an order and closing it in the process left the emptied order still reporting its original tax and subtotal β counting the same tax twice across both orders.
