Printing the Layout: Adding Tip Suggestions to Your Receipts & Vouchers π§ΎποΈ
Once you have configured your calculation percentages and exception rules in your Area settings, the final step is telling your physical printers exactly where to ink that data onto the guest paper.
In NX Restaurant, receipt layouts are completely modular. To display tip math to your guests, you must explicitly add the Tip Suggestions element to your active print templates.
π οΈ Step-by-Step Layout Configuration
To add tip suggestions to your physical print templates, navigate to your back-office design settings:
Go to Configuration > Printing > Formats in the NX Portal.
Select the specific template you want to modify (e.g., Julie's Awesome Receipt).
Ensure you are on the General settings tab.

Locate the Receipt Section column boxes in the center of the workspace:
Available (Left Column): Data fields currently hidden on your printouts.
Selected (Right Column): The active structural order of your printed receipt, working from top to bottom.
Scroll through the left box to find Tip suggestions.
Use the right arrow button (
>) to move it into your active Selected column.Use the up and down layout arrows on the far right to position it precisely where you want it to print (typically placed immediately below the Total or Balance Due rows).
Click Save.
π Customizing Different Receipt Types
Depending on how your business handles payments, you will want to verify this layout across your distinct print types using the Type dropdown at the top of the configuration card:
1. Standard Customer Receipts - Tip Suggestions
(Type: Guest check)
Adding Tip suggestions here prints the exact calculated dollar amounts for your tiers (e.g., 18% = $3.60, 20% = $4.00) directly onto the informational bill before a payment method is even produced. This gives guests a quick cheat sheet while they pull out their wallets.
2. Credit Card Vouchers - Tip Check Boxes
(Type: Receipt with payment voucher)
If your venue utilizes a traditional "write-in" credit card flow where guests sign a paper slip:
The Elements: Ensure both Tip suggestions and Tip check boxes are moved into the Selected column.
The Layout Result: This prints a clean array of selection boxes right alongside your Tip line, Total line, and Signature line, allowing guests to easily check a box to authorize a specific percentage calculation without needing to do manual math at the table.

The suggestions are printing on the guest bill, but missing from the final credit card slip.
You likely have different formats assigned to your check types! Go to Configuration > Areas, click your active area tab, and check the Receipt Formats card block. Ensure your customized template is assigned to both the Receipt Format dropdown and the Payment Voucher Format dropdown fields.
The suggestions block is in my layout column, but it's printing as blank space.
This means the check hasn't verified a base calculation percentage. Double-check that your active service Area has valid math percentages saved under its Receipts tab, and confirm that the order does not have an active Auto-Gratuity overriding the base calculation rules.
