Enabling Split by Position for Order Entry or Pay Commands in NX Restaurant

The Split by Position feature in NX Restaurant allows employees to quickly divide a guest check by individual seat or position. This is especially helpful in full-service dining environments where each guest prefers to pay for their own items.

This function is controlled at the Area level and must be explicitly enabled under either Order Entry Commands or Pay Commands.

Requirements

Before enabling Split by Position, ensure the following are configured:

• ✅ Positions are enabled for the Area.
• ✅ Employees are trained to assign position numbers when ringing in items.

How to Enable “Split by Position”

1. Log in to the NX Restaurant Portal.
2. In the left-hand navigation menu, go to: Configuration > Areas
3. Select the Area you want to configure (e.g., Dining Room or Bar).
4. Scroll down to the Order Entry Commands or Pay Commands section.
5. Click the dropdown menu for the desired section:
   • Order Entry Commands allow splitting checks during order creation.
   • Pay Commands allow splitting checks at the payment screen.
6. From the list, select Split by pos.
7. Click Save in the bottom-right corner to apply your changes.

What It Does

Staff will see a Split by pos button when working an order in the POS. If Positions have been assigned to items on the check, the system will create separate sub-checks by guest/seat. Each position can then be closed out separately using individual payment methods.

Best Practices

• Encourage servers to enter a guest count and assign positions when taking orders.
• Consider combining with Enable Sharing and Whole Table Position if your operation frequently splits shared items.
• Add Split by pos to both Order Entry and Pay Commands for maximum flexibility.
