Sell by Weight with Ease: Setting Up Your Scale with NX βοΈπ
If your restaurant or deli offers items priced by weight (like frozen yogurt, fresh salad bars, or sliced meats), having a perfectly synced scale is the key to fast, accurate checkout lines.
The NX Restaurant platform features plug-and-play support for compatible USB-connected scales. Setup is incredibly straightforwardβthere are absolutely no confusing software drivers to download or manual configurations required!
π¦ What You'll Need
Before you begin, make sure you have these three items ready at your station:
-
A compatible USB scale. βοΈ
A USB-B to USB-C cable. (Note: The scale features a USB-C port. While a serial cable is often included in the box, make sure to use the USB cable for NX terminals). π
An active NX Terminal (NX Station) with an available open USB port. π₯οΈ
π Connecting the Scale
Getting your scale hooked up takes less than a minute. Just follow these steps:
Plug into the Scale: Insert the smaller USB-C end of your cable firmly into the designated port on your scale.
Plug into the POS: Insert the USB-B end of the cable into an available open USB port on your physical NX terminal.
Watch for Confirmation: NX will automatically recognize the scale with zero additional software steps required. A brief banner notification will flash on your terminal screen confirming the scale is successfully connected! π
No Extra Outlets Needed: The scale conveniently draws its power directly from the terminal over the USB cord, keeping your counter free of bulky extra power adapters. β‘
β οΈ Crucial Step: After a Power Outage or Restart
It is important to keep in mind how the scale behaves if your restaurant unexpectedly loses power or if a manager restarts the terminal:
The scale does not power back on automatically when the terminal reboots or recovers from a power loss. πβ
If your station loses power for any reason, wait for the terminal screen to boot back up completely, then manually press the physical power button on the scale itself.
Once you turn it back on, NX will seamlessly recognize the device again automatically. π
π‘ Pro Tip: If your venue experiences frequent power blips or rolling brownouts, make checking and pressing the scale's power button a mandatory part of your team's morning opening checklist!
Need Help? π οΈ
The scale is plugged in, but NX isn't recognizing it.
Try unplugging the USB cable from the terminal, waiting three seconds, and plugging it back in firmly. NX should scan for the hardware and display the connection banner within a few seconds of detecting it. πβ¨
The scale isn't powering on at all.
Double-check that the USB cable is fully seated and pushed all the way into the ports at both ends. If the terminal screen is turned on and the cable is secure but the scale remains dead, try plugging the cable into a different open USB port on the back or bottom of the terminal.
The scale was working perfectly on shift but suddenly stopped responding.
This almost always happens if the main terminal executed a brief automated restart. Simply press the scale's physical power button to turn it off, press it again to turn it back on, and wait for the connection banner to reappear on your NX software layout! ππ₯
