Maintenance Guide: Updating Card Reader Firmware (VP3300 & VP3350) 💳🛠️
To ensure optimal performance and communication between NX, Datacap, and your hardware, it is critical that your card readers are running the correct firmware versions.
Running outdated or improper firmware can lead to frequent communication errors, such as the "Card reader not responding" message, and can disrupt your ability to take payments.
🔍 Required Firmware Versions
Please verify that your devices match the following specific versions:
VP3300: V1.10.035
VP3350: V1.01.003.2506
If your current version is lower than these listed above, you should proceed with an update.
🛠️ How to Update Your Device
Updates are managed directly through the POS terminal. Follow these steps:
Open Settings: From the main POS screen, tap the Cloud icon in the top right corner and select Payments.
Check Current Version: Locate the Firmware Version field in the center of the window.
Note: If your device is already on the correct version, the Update Firmware button will be disabled.
Initiate Update: Tap the blue Update Firmware button.
⚠️ CRITICAL WARNING: DO NOT INTERRUPT
Once you tap "Update Firmware," the system will display a progress bar.
The update duration varies based on the reader:
VP3300 readers will take between 4 to 6 minutes to complete
VP3350 readers will take between 1 to 3 minutes to complete
DO NOT leave the current screen, close the app, or unplug the card reader while the update is in progress. > Interrupting this process can cause permanent, irreparable damage to the card reader hardware.
✅ Finalizing the Update
Once the progress bar reaches 100%, several things will happen:
The Beep Code:
VP3350 readers will emit two distinct beeps: one short beep followed by one long beep.
VP3300 readers may beep, depending on the reconnection process.
Android Permissions: Your tablet will display a standard Android prompt asking for permission to allow NX to use the USB device. You must select "Allow" or "OK." * Note: You may be prompted for this permission a second time as the device reinitializes; always select "Allow."
Success Confirmation: The Payments screen will display "Firmware updated successfully" in green text. Tap Dismiss to return to service.
Final Test: After performing the Firmware Update, you must perform a Config Pay Device to load the latest payment configuration onto the reader.
Troubleshooting 💡
The "Update Firmware" button is greyed out.
This means your device is already running the latest supported firmware and no action is needed.
I received a "Card Reader Not Found" error during the update.
Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the tablet and the reader. If the reader has power (lights are on) but isn't found, try a different USB port or cable.
