Troubleshooting Credit Card Processing Error: INVALID USAGE A73 57
Overview
The INVALID USAGE A73 57 error occurs during credit card processing and indicates a configuration issue within the merchant’s TSYS account setup. This error prevents successful transaction authorization or settlement and typically points to an incorrect Capture Delay Flag setting in TSYS Express.
Root Cause
This error occurs when the Capture Delay Flag is not properly configured on the merchant’s TSYS account.
For NX Restaurant and similar integrated POS environments, the Capture Delay Flag must be set to:
- H – Hold Capture
If the flag is set incorrectly, transactions sent from the POS will be rejected by TSYS, resulting in the INVALID USAGE A73 57 error.
Resolution Steps
- Verify the Error Confirm the error message displayed on the POS or in transaction logs:
INVALID USAGE A73 57
2. Contact the Merchant Processing Company
This issue cannot be corrected in the NX Portal. Contact the merchant’s credit card processor (TSYS or associated VAR) and request that the Capture Delay Flag in TSYS Express be set to “H” for Hold Capture on the merchant account.
3. Confirm Resolution
Once the processor updates the account, it can take 10-15 minutes for the change to go into effect. After waiting you can try running a transaction again. Verify that the error no longer appears and the transaction processes successfully.
Additional Notes
This error is specific to TSYS-hosted merchant accounts. The Capture Delay Flag setting determines how transactions are queued for capture and settlement. Always confirm account configuration settings directly with the processor before going live to prevent authorization issues.
