Technical Guide: Re-Imaging the NX15 Terminal
This document provides technical instructions for imaging or updating the firmware on an NX15 terminal using a Windows-based workstation and the Smart Phone Flash Tool.
Prerequisites
Workstation: Windows OS with administrative privileges.
Cables: High-quality USB-A to USB-C data cable.
Power: NX15 original power adapter.
Software: Smart Phone Flash Tool (SPFT) installed.
Initial Preparation
Step 1: Download the Image
Log in to the NX Portal. Navigate to Docs & Files > Tools & Utilities and download the latest archive: NX15 - Image <version_name>.zip.
Step 2: Download Nexus Flash Tools
Log in to the NX Portal. Navigate to Docs & Files > Tools & Utilities and download the Nexus Flash Tools: Nexus Flash Tools.zip.
Step 3: Extract Resources
Unzip the contents of the archive and flash tools to a local directory (e.g., C:\NX15_Imaging\). Ensure the directory path does not contain special characters or spaces to prevent pathing errors in the flash tool.
Flashing Procedure
Step 3: Load the Configuration Files
Launch the Smart Phone Flash Tool.
Locate the Download-XML section.
Click the Choose button.
Navigate to your extracted ROM folder:
ROM folder > download_agent.Select the
flash.xmlfile and click Open.
Step 4: Initiate Firmware Upgrade
In the drop-down menu located in the Download tab, select Firmware Upgrade.
Note: Do not select "Download Only" unless specifically instructed by NX Engineering.
Click the green Download arrow button at the top of the interface. The tool is now in standby mode, waiting for the device connection.
Hardware Connection:
Connect the USB-A end of the cable to the Windows workstation.
Connect the USB-C end to the NX15 system.
Connect the power adapter to the NX15 system.
Execute: Press the Power Button on the NX15.
CRITICAL: The Power Button must only be pressed after the Download button has been clicked in the software and the USB cable is seated.
Completion and Verification
Step 5: Finalizing the Process
Monitor the progress bar at the bottom of the SPFT window.
Once the process reaches 100%, a window with a green checkmark (Download OK) will appear.
Unplug the USB-C cable from the NX15.
Cycle the power on the NX15 system to boot into the new image.
Troubleshooting
Device not detected after pressing power button:
Ensure the VCOM drivers are installed on the Windows workstation.
Verify the USB cable supports data transfer and is not a "charge-only" cable.
Try an alternative USB port (direct motherboard ports on the rear of the PC are preferred over front-panel hubs).
Status Bar turns Red/Purple and stops:
This usually indicates a handshake error. Disconnect power, close the tool, and restart from Step 3.
Verify that
flash.xmlwas loaded correctly and all file paths in the list are highlighted in green.
