Speed Up Your Service: Managing "Wait While Authorizing" 💳
In the fast-paced world of hospitality, every second counts! The Wait While Authorizing feature in NX Restaurant gives you control over how your staff interacts with the POS during credit card transactions.
Whether you want to ensure a staff member stays with the guest until the payment clears or allow them to multi-task while the bank processes the data, this setting is your go-to tool.
What is "Wait While Authorizing"? 🧐
This feature determines if a server can navigate away from the payment screen while a credit card is being processed.
When Enabled: The "Continue" button is hidden. The server must wait for the "Success" message or manually cancel the transaction.
When Disabled: The "Continue" button is active. The server can jump back to the order screen while the payment finishes in the background.
How to Configure the Setting ⚙️
Only users with Administrative access can change this setting in the NX Portal.
Log in to your NX Portal.
Navigate to Areas and select the specific area you wish to edit (e.g., Dine In or Bar).
Scroll down to the Credit Card Options section.
Find the toggle for Wait While Authorizing.
Toggle ON (Purple): Forces the user to stay on the payment screen.
Toggle OFF (Grey): Allows the user to "Continue" past the screen.
Click Save at the bottom of the page.
Using it on the POS 🖥️
Scenario A: "Wait While Authorizing" is ON
When you swipe, dip, or tap a card, the Transaction Progress window appears. You will notice the Continue button is greyed out or removed. You must wait for the transaction to complete or hit Cancel.
Note: Transactions will automatically time out after 60 seconds if no response is received.
Scenario B: "Wait While Authorizing" is OFF
If your business is high-volume and you need to start a new order immediately, you can press Continue. The payment window disappears, allowing you to keep working.
Check the Footer: You can track the status of that background payment in the Order Footer at the bottom left of your screen.
Important Pro-Tips! ⚠️
No Double-Dipping: You cannot run two credit card transactions at the same time on one terminal.
Avoid Overwrites: If you press "Continue" and try to start a new card transaction before the first one finishes, the POS will automatically cancel the first transaction. Always make sure the first payment is "Authorized" in the footer before swiping another card!
Troubleshooting 💡
The "Continue" button is missing and I'm in a hurry!
This means your manager has enabled "Wait While Authorizing." You’ll need to wait for the card to process (usually 3-5 seconds) or ask a manager to change the setting in the NX Portal.
The transaction timed out!
Most card processors time out after 60 seconds. Simply tap "Cancel" and try the payment again. Ensure your internet connection is stable.
I pressed Continue, but I don't see the payment status.
Look at the very bottom left of your screen (the Order Footer). It will cycle through messages like "Authorizing..." or "Transaction Approved."
