✍️ Customizing Your Credit Card Signature Lines
Managing how and when your customers sign for their meals is key to a smooth checkout experience. Whether you want a signature for every single latte or only for large dinner parties, NX Restaurant gives you total control.
This guide will walk you through the three settings that determine how signature lines appear on your credit card vouchers. 🍽️
🧱 The 3-Step Configuration
To give you ultimate flexibility, signature settings are split across three different areas. Think of this as a "waterfall" logic—each step refines when that line actually prints.
1. Enable the Signature Line (The "Master Switch")
Before anything else, you must tell the system that a signature line is a piece of data you want on your receipts. Without this, the line will never print, regardless of other settings.
Go to Configuration > Printing > Formats.
Select your Credit Voucher format.
Under the General tab, look at the Receipt Section.
Move Signature Line from the "Available" column to the "Selected" column.
2. Set Your Spending Threshold
Most restaurants prefer to only require signatures for larger transactions to speed up service. You can set a specific dollar amount or percentage in the Areas section.
Go to Configuration > Areas.
Select the specific Area (e.g., "Dine In" or "Bar").
Scroll to Signature Required Options.
Enter a $ Threshold. For example, if you enter $25.00, any payment below that amount will skip the signature line.
3. The "Always Print" Override
Sometimes you may want a signature every time, no matter what—perhaps for a specific high-end patio or a special event area.
Return to Configuration > Printing > Formats.
Click the Settings tab.
Find the Signature Line section.
-
Toggle on Always print signature line.
Note: When this is ON, it ignores your Area thresholds and card settings. It is the final word!
💡 Understanding the Hierarchy
How does NX decide what to do? It follows this simple logic:
Is "Signature Line" in the Receipt Section? If no, nothing prints. If yes, move to step 2.
Is "Always Print" toggled ON? If yes, it prints every time. If no, move to step 3.
Is the transaction over the Area Threshold? If yes, it prints. If no, the line is hidden to save paper and time!
💳 A Note on EMV (Chip Cards) & Disputes
You might notice that many modern "Chip & PIN" or "Chip & Signature" transactions don't strictly require a signature anymore.
According to major card brands like Visa, signatures are now optional for merchants using EMV-enabled chip readers. Because the chip technology is so secure, a physical signature is no longer the primary requirement for winning a chargeback dispute. You can safely increase your signature thresholds to provide a faster, contactless experience for your guests! 🚀

❓ Need Help?
Are your signature lines still appearing when they shouldn't?
Check your Format: Ensure you are editing the specific format assigned to that printer.
Verify Area Settings: Remember that thresholds are set per Area (Bar vs. Dining Room).
