👤 Prompt for Position — Setup and Use Guide
The Prompt for Position setting allows servers to assign menu items to a specific guest or seat position when entering an order in the NX POS.
This feature is especially useful in full-service dining environments where guests are seated and orders are delivered to individual positions at a table.
🎯 Purpose
When enabled, Prompt for Position ensures each ordered item is associated with a guest seat position, making it easy to:
- Deliver items accurately to each guest
- Split checks efficiently by seat
- Maintain clarity for kitchen and expo staff on which guest each dish belongs to
⚙️ Enabling “Prompt for Position”
You can enable this option at the Menu Item level in the NX Portal.
To enable:
- Go to Configuration → Menus → Items.
- Select the desired menu item (e.g., BW Burger).
- Navigate to the Options tab.
- Toggle Prompt for Position to ON.
📸 Example: Enabling Prompt for Position
Once enabled, the POS will prompt the server to select a seating position each time this item is added to an order.
Tip: You can enable “Prompt for Course” at the same time if you’d like the server to also choose the course (e.g., appetizer, entrée, dessert).
💡 Example: Using Prompt for Position in NX POS
When an item with Prompt for Position enabled is selected on the POS:
- The system will automatically display a Position Select popup.
- The server can choose from available seat positions (e.g., Pos 1, Pos 2, COT for Carry Out Tray).
- Once a position is selected, tap Continue to confirm.

NX will then display the selected position under the menu item in the check view.
🧾 How It Appears on the Order Screen
After assigning positions, you’ll see each item labeled with its respective Pos # under the order list.
This makes it clear which guest each order belongs to and helps servers manage large or complex tables with ease.
