Stay in Business, Even When the Internet is Out: NX Offline Payments πΆπ
We understand that in the restaurant industry, every second counts. If your internet connection or network goes down, you shouldn't have to stop serving guests. NX Restaurant includes a robust Offline Payments feature to keep your terminal running smoothly until youβre back online.
How Offline Payments Work π οΈ
When a terminal detects that it cannot reach the payment processor, it will automatically notify you.
The Prompt: When you attempt to swipe, dip, or tap a card, a "Network Connection Offline" warning will appear.
Authorization: If you have the required permission (Check: Payments - Allow Offline), you can tap Process Offline.
If you do not have permission, or you cancel, you will see an Payment Platform Offline notification
The "Offline Bundle": The payment is stored locally on that specific POS terminal in a secure "offline bundle." The check will appear as paid, allowing you to close it and move on to the next guest.
β οΈ Note: Safeguarding your funds is our primary concern. NX requires you to manually confirm each offline payment so that you can consciously mitigate the risk of potential declines.
What Happens When the Internet Returns? π
As soon as your internet or network connection is restored:
Automatic Sync: Each NX terminal will automatically begin seeking authorizations for the transactions stored in its bundle.
Approvals & Declines: If the card is valid and has sufficient funds, it will process as normal. If the card is fraudulent or has insufficient funds, the transaction will be declined.
Reconciliation: Any declined payments will be reflected on the specific check. You can reconcile these via the Credit Cards view in the NX Portal.
Viewing Current Offline Transactions π
You can monitor the status of your "Offline Bundle" at any time to see exactly how much cash is waiting to be processed.
Navigate to Manager View (the grid icon).
Select Offline Payments.
Local Data: This screen displays the Date, Order #, Account (last 4 digits), and Amount.
Important: Because offline data is stored locally for security, this view only shows offline payments for the specific terminal you are holding. It is not a venue-wide total.
Need Help? π‘
I don't see the "Process Offline" button.
Your Job Code likely lacks the "Check: Payments - Allow Offline" permission. Reach out to your manager to have this enabled for your role.
How long can I stay offline?
While NX can store payments for an extended period, we recommend restoring your connection as soon as possible to minimize the risk of card declines.
How do I know if a payment was declined after we came back online?
Keep an eye on your Notifications (the bell icon) or check the Credit Cards report in the NX Portal at the end of your shift.
