Creating a new Menu Item by copying a similar item provides the ability to simplify the process of repetitive configurations. When copying a Menu Item in the NX Restaurant portal, the new item retains the original item’s details such as tags, price points, modifiers, assigned categories, menu appearance, and more.Â

Note: Every possible Menu Item customization or configuration is not required to complete the guide.Â

To create a new menu item from a copyÂ
Â
- Log into the NX Restaurant portal.
- Select the location from the restaurant drop-down menu.
- From the left sidebar navigation, click Menus >Â Items.
- From the Menu Items list, choose the menu item you wish to copy and click the copy icon (
).
- The copied Menu Item is automatically added to the item list containing the ‘(copy)’ identifier. Click the copied Menu Item.
- Update the copied Menu Item fields by changing or filling in one or more of the following details:

Modifying a Copied Menu Item’s Price Points
The copied menu item’s Price Points are carried over from the original item. After copying a menu item, you can add, modify, or remove previously configured Price Points to the new item. The General tab contains the menu item’s price points.Â
Â
- To add a new price point to the copied menu item, click Add Price Points.
- To modify the price points, use the Price Point drop-down menu and select a new price point.
- To modify the price point amount, type the new price in th Price textbox.
- To modify the order in which the price points prompt for selection, use the up and down arrows to sort. Additionally, you can manually order the price points by clicking and dragging using the (
) icon.
- To remove a price point that was carried from the original menu item, click the trash can icon (
).Â
Updating a Copied Menu Item’s Modifiers
When copying a menu item, the Modifiers are retained from the original. In some cases, you may wish to update the modifiers for the new copied menu item. Modifiers can be added, changed, and removed. The modifiers can be updated on the Modifiers tab.Â

- To add a new modifier to the copied menu item, click Add Modifiers.
- To update the modifier category, click the Category drop-down menu and select a new category.
- Use the Min and Max textboxes to type the modifier’s minimum and maximum number of selections that a customer can choose from the modifier category choices.

- Use the Free textbox to type how many of the modifier selections are free additions to the menu item.
- To modify the order in which the modifiers prompt for selection, use the up and down arrows to sort. Additionally, you can manually order the modifiers by clicking and dragging using the (
) icon.
- To remove a modifier that was carried from the original menu item, click the trash can icon (
).Â

Reassigning a Copied Item’s Menu Category
The Menu Category assignments are carried over to the new menu item when copying from an existing item. You can reassign the menu item’s category on the Menu tab.Â

- Add a new menu category by clicking to highlight the category name from the Available list, and then clicking the right arrow. This moves the category from the Available list to the Selected list.
- Remove a menu category by clicking to highlight the category name from the Selected list, and then clicking the left arrow. This moves the category from the Selected list to the Available list.

Managing a Copied Menu Item’s Reporting
Another configuration retained after copying a menu item are the reporting configurations. Reporting details can be managed by changing the menu item type, meal stage, and adding or removing Sales Categories. The menu item’s reporting is managed on the Reporting tab.Â
- To update the reporting type, use the Type drop-down menu to select a new item type.
- Change the meal stage by using the Meal Stage drop-down menu and choose a new stage.
- Add a new Sales Category by clicking Add Sales Categories.
- Use the Category drop-down menu to select a new Sales Category.
- Manage the percentage of the menu item that reports to the added Sales Category by using the Amount textbox.
- To modify the order in which the Sales Categories appear, use the up and down arrows to sort. Additionally, you can manually order the Sales Categories by clicking and dragging using the (
) icon.
- To remove a Sales Category that was carried from the original menu item, click the trash can icon (
).
Adjusting a Copied Menu Item’s Chit Configuraiton
The copied menu item’s chit settings are replicated to the new item after using the copy action. The chit settings ensure that the correct area within the food and beverage establishment are notified of the order. Adjusting the routing group, priority, and cook time confirms that the menu item is prepared by the correct station. Adjust the chit settings on the Chit tab.Â

- Use the Routing Group drop-down menu to adjust the preparation station that receives the item after ordering.
- Type the priority number of the menu item in the Priority textbox.
- Enter the amount of time the menu item likely takes to be prepared in the Cook Time textbox.

Changing a Copied Menu Item’s Taxes
When copying a menu item, the tax classifications are also retained. Tax Groups can be added, changed, and removed from the copied menu item. Change the Tax Groups associated to the item on the Taxes tab.

- Click Add Tax Groups to add a new tax group to the copied menu item.
- Use the Tax Group drop-down menu and select a previously configured Tax Group.
- To remove a Tax Group that was carried from the original menu item, click the trash can icon (
).
