NX Control User Guide
NX Control is the app that runs behind the scenes on your POS device. It keeps the device online, keeps NX Restaurant up to date, and locks the device so it can only run the ordering app. This guide explains what's on the NX Control screen and what each button does.
Most staff will never need to open this screen day-to-day — it's mainly used during setup and by managers or support when something needs fixing.
Opening the NX Control Screen
Normally your device boots straight into NX Restaurant. To get to the NX Control screen while NX Restaurant is running:
From any Android OS Screen
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification shade.
- Tap the NX Control notification.
From within NX Restaurant POS
Touch the Cloud icon
Select Device Info
Touch Device Settings
To go back to the ordering app, tap Return to NX at the top of the NX Control screen.

The Main Screen
The NX Control screen is one page with several sections. Tap Refresh at the top any time to update the information on screen.
DEVICE
Shows your device's Device ID, IMEI, Serial, and IP Address. You won't normally need these — support will ask for them if you call in with a problem.
STATUS
Shows whether the device is set up and talking to NX correctly:
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Device Owner | Confirms NX Control has full control of the device |
| Enrolled | Whether the device has registered with NX |
| API Key | A code the device uses to talk to NX (should show a value once enrolled) |
| IoT | Whether the device's live connection to NX is active |
| Heartbeat | The last time the device checked in with NX |
| Last Poll / Last Command | The most recent remote command the device checked for or received |
This section is mostly useful when talking to support — they may ask you to read out what it says.
ORIENTATION
Choose which way the screen should face: Portrait, Landscape, Rev. Portrait, or Rev. Landscape. Changes apply right away.
TIMEZONE
Choose the local time zone from the dropdown: Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Arizona, or Hawaii. Use Set Date/Time only if the clock is showing the wrong date or time — it opens a normal date and time picker.
KIOSK
A checkbox labeled Kiosk Mode. When checked, the device is locked into NX Restaurant — staff can't switch apps or leave the ordering screen by accident. This should normally stay on.
MAINTENANCE Buttons
| Button | What it does | Needs Admin PIN? |
|---|---|---|
| NX Launcher | Opens the NX home screen, showing icons for the apps installed on this device | No |
| Configure WiFi | Opens the WiFi settings so you can join or change networks | Yes |
| System Settings | Opens the device's normal Android settings | Yes |
| Force Re-enroll | Tells the device to register with NX again right away — use if Enrolled shows "No" | No |
| Reboot Device | Restarts the device (asks you to confirm first) | No |
| Uninstall NX Rest. | Removes the NX Restaurant app; it will reinstall automatically on the next reboot — use this to clear a broken install | Yes |
| Reset Card Reader | Fixes a frozen or unresponsive card reader without needing a reboot | Yes |
About the Admin PIN
Some buttons ask for an Admin PIN before they work. This is on purpose — it stops staff from accidentally changing WiFi, uninstalling the ordering app, or opening system settings.
If you need the PIN, ask your manager or your NX support contact. It is not listed in this guide.
When to Contact Support
Reach out to NX support if:
- Enrolled still shows "No" after trying Force Re-enroll
- The card reader still doesn't work after Reset Card Reader
- NX Restaurant won't open after a reboot
- Anything on the screen looks unexpected and you're not sure what to do
Have your Device ID and Serial (from the DEVICE section) ready when you call — support will ask for these.
