Setting Up a Gift Card-Only Online Ordering Page in NX Restaurant

Want to give your guests a dedicated space to purchase digital gift cards without browsing through your dinner menu? Gift Cards can be activated for sale online as part of your normal online ordering page however by leveraging a specific "Area" and "Menu Set" configuration, you can create a clean, professional online storefront exclusively for gift cards.

Step 1: Configure Your Gift Card Type

Before building the page, ensure your gift cards are authorized for online sale.

1. Navigate to Customer Service > Gift Card Types.

2. Select your gift card (e.g., "NX Gift Card").

3. In the Availability section, ensure Available for online purchase is toggled ON.

Step 2: Create a "Blank" Menu Set

The trick to a gift card-only page is providing a Menu Set that contains no food or beverage categories.

1. Go to Configuration > Menus > Menu Sets.

2. Click the + to create a new set (e.g., "NX Gift Cards Only").

3. Crucial: Leave the Selected column empty. Do not move any categories (like Appetizers or Entrees) into this set.

4. Click Save.

Step 3: Setup the Dedicated "Area"

Next, we create the "Area" that tells the system which menu to show (in this case, none!) and how to handle the orders.

1. Go to Configuration > Areas.

2. Create a new Area called "E-Gift".

3. Under the Menus tab, select the "Blank" Menu Set you created in Step 2.

4. Under the Online Ordering tab:

   • Toggle Enabled to ON.

   • Ensure the status is set to Active.

5. Click Save.

Step 4: Create the Subdomain (Your Storefront Link)

Finally, create the actual URL where guests will go to buy their cards.

1. Navigate to Enterprise > Subdomains.

2. Click + to create a new subdomain.

3. Name: Give it a clear name (e.g., "Gift Card Store").

4. Type: Select Online Order.

5. Subdomain: Enter the text for your URL (e.g., mygiftcards). Your full link will look like https://mygiftcards.nxorders.com/.

6. Online Order Setup: Under Area, select the "E-Gift" area you created in Step 3.

7. Click Save.

How it Works

Because the Area is linked to a Menu Set with no categories, the standard menu layout will be empty. However, since your Gift Card Type is set to "Available for Online Purchase," the platform's native gift card module will automatically populate the page.

The result? A streamlined checkout page where guests can choose their gift card amount, add a recipient, and pay—all without distractions.

Pro-Tip

Once your subdomain is saved, click the Link button in the Subdomain Settings to test the guest experience. You can then add this link to your restaurant's main website under a "Buy Gift Cards" button!
