Configuring Menu Items: The Included Items Tab in the NX Restaurant Portal
The Included Items tab allows you to define preset ingredients for a menu item along with customization options using Prep Mod Groups. This helps ensure consistent kitchen prep instructions, improves order accuracy, and enhances the guest experience—especially through kiosks and online ordering.
How to Access the Included Items Tab
- Go to the Configuration section.
- Select Menus > Items.
- Choose the item you wish to edit or click + New to create a new menu item.
- Click the Included Items tab.
Overview of Features
Sort Method
Controls the display order of included items.
Choose from:
- Custom: Set your own manual order.
- Ascending or Descending.
Auto-Ring
When enabled, the first Prep Mod for each included item will ring automatically. Useful for auto-applying default prep instructions such as With or Add.
Items
Add menu items from your existing database as included components of the main item.
For example:
A Burger may include: Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Gluten Free Bun, etc.
Each included item is paired with a Prep Mod Group to define possible customizations such as:
- No
- Extra
- On Side
đź“ť Note: The menu items and prep mod groups must already be configured before they can be added to this section.
Managing Included Items
- Click the purple + button to add a new included item.
- Use the Menu Item dropdown to select the ingredient.
- Use the Prep Mod Group dropdown to assign a group of prep options (e.g., No, Extra, O/S).
- Drag items using the handle icon to reorder if using Custom sort.
- Click the red ❌ icon to remove an item from the list.
Setup Requirements
Before using this tab, make sure:
- The ingredient menu items are already created under Menus > Items.
- Prep Mods are created for each instruction needed.
- Prep Mod Groups are configured under Configuration > Menus > Modifiers > Prep Mod Groups.
Benefits of Using Included Items
- Improves kitchen clarity on default item builds.
- Allows servers and guests to easily adjust ingredients.
- Enables better control over guest modifications on kiosks and online platforms.
