Speak Your Language: How to Use Multi-Language Features in NX 🌎🗣️
Operating a busy restaurant means managing a diverse team and welcoming guests from all walks of life! With NX Restaurant, your point-of-sale system isn't locked into just one language.
A Spanish-reading server can effortlessly enter orders on a Spanish terminal screen, while the guest at the same table views their pay screen in English, and the line cooks receive printed tickets at the kitchen station in Vietnamese—all happening simultaneously on the exact same system!
This guide explains which languages are supported, how NX determines what language to show, and where each setting takes effect on your floor.
🌐 Available Languages
Beyond English, NX offers full system translations for:
🇪🇸 Spanish
🇫🇷 French
🇮🇹 Italian
🇻🇳 Vietnamese
🇨🇳 Chinese (Simplified)
🇰🇷 Korean
Every translation covers the entire system—including buttons, prompts, system warnings, manager reports, guest receipts, and kitchen display tickets!
⚙️ The 3 Key Language Controls
Instead of a single global switch, NX uses three distinct settings to give you flexible control over your operations:
1. Employee Language (Staff View) 👤
Where It's Set: On each team member's individual employee profile in the NX Portal.
What It Controls: All POS order-entry screens, tabs, and floor plans that display while that specific person is logged in.
How It Works: If left blank, the employee simply sees the venue's default language. You only need to adjust this for staff members who prefer a different language!
2. Venue Default Language (Guest View) 🏪
Where It's Set: Once in your overall venue configuration settings.
What It Controls: All guest-facing technology—including customer-facing displays, payment terminals, printed or digital receipts—plus system startup screens before staff log in.
3. Kitchen Station Language (Kitchen View) 👨🍳
Where It's Set: On each physical kitchen display screen (KDS) or printer station.
What It Controls: The station's video display screen and its printed kitchen chits.
Why It Helps: This is set per station so you can run a Spanish-speaking grill line alongside an English-speaking prep area at the same time! A Spanish-speaking server sending food to an English-speaking line will still automatically produce an English ticket.

📌 What Stays in the Original Language?
To keep your accounting and kitchen communications clear, a few items intentionally remain un-translated:
🍽️ Your Custom Menu: Item names, descriptions, and modifiers appear exactly as typed in your back-office Portal. (If you want items named in two languages, that is edited directly in your menu setup).
💵 Money, Dates, & Times: Financial figures always follow your venue's standard regional format so receipts match your accounting reports.
✍️ Custom Text Entries: Anything typed manually by a staff member—such as guest names, special prep instructions, or order notes—appears exactly as entered.
🖨️ Important Hardware Note: Printing Chinese
Chinese characters require a hardware printer with a Chinese character set built into its internal memory. Most standard receipt printers sold in North America do not include this by default.
Spanish, French, Italian, Vietnamese, and Korean all print perfectly on your standard existing receipt printers!
If you plan to print Chinese chits in the kitchen or on guest receipts, please consult your NX partner to ensure you have compatible printer models before enabling the setting.
Need Help? 💡
Do I need to assign a custom language profile for every single employee?
Nope! Anyone left blank automatically defaults to your overall Venue Default language. You only need to assign specific languages for staff members who want something different.
Can two servers use different languages on the exact same terminal station?
Yes! The terminal interface instantly adapts its language the second a server types in their PIN or swipes in, and instantly switches back when the next person logs in. No device reboot is required!
A server's language is set to Spanish, but a button still shows up in English. Why?
If a brand-new system prompt or feature phrase hasn't been translated yet, NX gracefully defaults to the English phrase so that no text is missing. The rest of the screen will remain in Spanish.
A word looks awkwardly translated or cut off on a ticket. How do I report it?
Our translations are constantly improving. If you notice a word that reads awkwardly or gets cut off on a kitchen chit, snap a photo and send it to our Support Team at support@joinnx.com along with the language used. We can issue quick wording fixes to help your floor!
