Hardware Guide: Logic Controls KB1700 Kitchen Keypad
The Logic Controls KB1700 is the standard workhorse for clearing orders off your Kitchen Display System (KDS). However, because these units are fully programmable, they must be configured correctly to communicate with the NX platform.
The Standard Template
By default, NX supports the KB1700-B Default Template.
While most new units ship with this configuration, keypads that were previously used with a different POS system often have buttons mapped to different internal commands. Even if the physical keycaps look identical to ours, the "mapping" of the keypad may need a reset to function with NX.
When to Reprogram
You should reprogram your keypad if:
Pressing a button performs the wrong action (e.g., "Bump 1" clears the wrong order).
The keypad was repurposed from a different software system or site.
The device is unresponsive in NX KDS despite being plugged in.
Programming Instructions
To align your hardware with the NX platform, follow these steps:
1. Download Required Files
Manufacturer Utility: Download the programming software directly from Logic Controls.
-
NX Saved Template: Download the
NX-KB1700template from the NX Portal.Location:
Dealership>Docs & Files>Tools & Utilities
2. Update the Keypad
Connect the KB1700 to a Windows PC via USB.
Launch the Logic Controls Programming Utility.
Load the NX-KB1700 template file you downloaded from the portal.
Write the settings to the device.
Reconnect the keypad to your KDS station and test.
Troubleshooting
Connection: If the utility doesn't see the keypad, try a different USB port or check for debris in the connection.
Firmware: If the template fails to load, ensure you are using the latest version of the utility from the manufacturer's link above.
