Seating Your Guests: Drag-and-Drop Efficiency with NX Host 🍽️✨
Getting guests to their tables should be the easiest part of your shift. NX Host offers a highly visual, "what you see is what you get" experience. Whether you prefer the Timeline view or the Floor Plan view, seating a party is as simple as a quick drag-and-drop.
Two Ways to Drag, One Way to Seat 🖱️
You can grab a waiting party from two convenient locations, depending on which screen you're currently using:
1. From the Party List Sidebar
Best for when you are looking at the full list of everyone waiting, including their quoted times and special requests.
Action: Click and hold a guest card (like "Justin Lutsky") in the left-hand sidebar.
Drop: Drag the card directly onto an open table on your Floor Plan.
2. From the Waiting Party Bottom Bar
Best for quick seating during a rush without losing sight of your table layout.
Action: Look at the orange "Unassigned" chips at the bottom of the screen.
Drop: Grab a chip and slide it onto the desired table.
Seating in different Views 🖼️
Floor Plan View
This view gives you a bird's-eye look at your restaurant. When you drag a party onto a table:
The table will highlight to show it's selected.
NX will instantly create the "Seated" status for that party.
Visual Cue: You'll see the guest's name and party size appear right on the table icon.
Timeline View
If you're planning ahead or managing reservations, the Timeline view shows you when tables will become free.
Action: Drag the party from the bottom bar onto the row for the specific table (e.g., Table 108).
Drop: Aim for the current time marker (the red vertical line) to seat them immediately.
Managing "In-Progress" Seating 🔄
If you hover a party over a table, a quick-view summary will appear, showing:
Guest Name & Party Size
Arrival Time & Total Wait
Quoted Time vs. Actual Time
This ensures you’re seating the right party at the right table before you let go!
Need Help? 💡
The table won't let me drop the party.
Check if the table is already occupied! NX won't let you "double-seat" a table unless you first clear the previous check or use the "Join Tables" feature.
I sat the party at the wrong table!
No problem. Just drag the party from the wrong table and drop them onto the correct one. NX will update the location automatically.
Does the server get notified?
Yes! If your servers use handhelds or have "New Table" notifications enabled, they will receive an alert the moment you drop that party onto their section.
