Units of Measure

Units of measure are how you describe quantities — gallons, ounces, pounds, cases, each, and so on. Conversions tell the system how those units relate (for example, 1 gallon = 128 ounces), which is what lets Inventory move seamlessly between how you buy, count, and cook with an item.

Your account comes pre-loaded with about 21 common units and the standard conversions between them, so most operators only add a few specialty units.

Where to find it

Inventory → Units of Measure. Units are shared across your whole Enterprise, so you set them up once.

Adding a unit

1. Click New.
2. Enter:
   • Name — e.g. Case.
   • Abbreviation — e.g. cs.
   • Type — Volume, Weight, Count, Pack, or Other. (Type helps Nexy suggest sensible conversions.)
3. Click Save.

Adding conversions with Nexy (the fast way)

Rather than typing conversion math, let Nexy do it:

1. Select a unit (for example, Gallon).
2. In the Conversions section, click ✨ Nexy Suggest.
3. Nexy proposes standard conversions to your other units — e.g. 1 Gallon = 128 Ounce, 1 Gallon = 3.785 Liter.
4. Review the suggested factors, adjust anything you need to, and click Save.

Note: Nexy's suggestions are just that — suggestions. Nothing is saved until you click Save, and you can edit any factor first.

Adding a conversion manually

1. Select a unit.
2. In Conversions, click + Add conversion.
3. Enter the factor and choose the target unit — read it as "1 this unit = factor of the target unit."
4. Click Save.

What conversions are used for

Conversions feed the three-tier unit model on each item — how you buy it, how you count it, and how you use it in recipes. When you set up an item, the system pre-fills conversion suggestions from this library, so a well-populated unit library makes item setup much faster. See Inventory Items for how the tiers work.
