Real-Time Visibility: The Order Status Board 🖥️🍕
Tired of staff shouting names into a crowded lobby or guests constantly hovering around your pickup counter? The Order Status Board is designed to solve that exact problem by providing an answer to a crucial operational challenge: "How can we give guests and team members real-time visibility into what's in flight?"
The Order Status Board is a full-screen, always-on display mode for any NX Android device. Whether you mount it facing your front counter, above the expo line, or directly in your designated pickup area, it acts as a live scoreboard. It shows exactly which orders are being prepared and which are ready for pickup—updating instantly as your team works behind the line. 📣✨
🔄 Two Ways to View Your Orders
Every restaurant operates a little differently. You can choose how the board organizes your tickets based on what matches your service workflow best:
Option 1: Grouped by Status (Preparing vs. Ready)
This layout splits the screen into two clean columns: Preparing on the left and Ready on the right.
An order pops up under Preparing the exact second it is sent to the kitchen.
When a team member marks it complete, it automatically glides over to the Ready column.
Once picked up, or after a custom timeout window, it clears off the screen on its own.
Best For: Front counters, waiting lobbies, and customer pickup windows where guests need a clear, unmistakable visual signal that their food is up. 🙋♂️🍔
Option 2: Grouped by Order Type (Channel Tracking)
Instead of tracking preparation steps, the board divides the screen into individual columns for each active service channel—for example: Takeout, DoorDash, and Curbside. Orders appear in their respective column the moment they are marked ready, keeping your different pickup streams completely separated.
Best For: High-volume, busy operations managing multiple digital ordering channels at once, where your packing or expo team needs to see what's ready for each specific fulfillment method at a glance. 📦🚗
📋 Anatomy of an Order Card
Every individual ticket card on the board is packed with live data so there is zero confusion:
Order Number: Boldly displayed so guests can instantly match it to their printed receipt ticket.
Customer Name: Pulled directly from the POS entry or online ordering profile.
Order Type: Clearly labels the fulfillment method (Pickup, Delivery, Curbside, etc.).
Time Elapsed: A live, minute-by-minute timer showing exactly how long it has been since the order was placed—helping your team manage ticket times efficiently.
🧹 Auto-Dismiss: Keeping the Screen Clean
During a heavy rush, you don't want old tickets piling up and cluttering your workspace. The Order Status Board features an Auto-Dismiss safety net.
Once an order is marked ready, a custom countdown timer begins running in the background. After that specific window closes (you choose how many minutes), the card automatically clears from the screen—whether or not your staff explicitly swiped it away as fulfilled. This guarantees your display stays clean, relevant, and free of stale tickets. ⏳🧼
🎨 Make It Yours: Custom Theme Settings
The Order Status Board is fully themeable to ensure it blends seamlessly with your restaurant's aesthetic and branding:
| Setting Group | What It Controls |
|---|---|
| Logo & Header Text | Upload your custom venue logo and write a dedicated line of text (e.g., "Grab Your Grub Here!") to display in the top bar. |
| Background Style | Choose between a clean, solid color background or a full-screen branded photo of your signature dishes. |
| Header & Column Colors | Match the accent bars and text colors of the Preparing and Ready headers to your venue's color scheme. |
| Card & Font Styles | Customize the card backgrounds, text weights, and fonts to keep your overall restaurant brand perfectly cohesive. |
⚙️ How to Set Up the Order Status Board
Step 1: In the NX Portal
Go to your back-office menu, open Venue Settings, and click on Order Status Boards.
Click Create New Board and give it a recognizable name.
Choose which order types to include, select your preferred view mode, layout your column titles, and adjust your custom theme colors.
Set your Ready Dismiss Timeout (the exact number of minutes an order stays on screen before auto-clearing).
Click Save.
Step 2: Setup the POS Device
Go to POS Devices in the NX Portal
Scroll down to Device Mode and select Order Status Board.
Assign the custom board profile you just built in the portal.
That's it! The screen will lock into full-screen board view and begin streaming live orders immediately.
💡 Pro Tip: You can create multiple separate boards in your portal (e.g., one for your In-House Lobby and another specifically for your Drive-Thru / Delivery Drivers Area) and link each one to a different physical device!
Need Help? 💡
Does the board update automatically when food is ready?
Yes! The board listens live for real-time order ticks. The very second a kitchen expo or line cook marks a ticket as complete on a kitchen display screen (KDS) or front terminal, it moves to the Ready column within seconds. ⚡
What happens to the display if our restaurant's internet drops?
Don't panic! If your network goes down, the board will continue displaying its last known state, alongside a small "Offline" status indicator. Existing orders stay on the screen, and all countdown timers will comfortably continue running locally until your connection is restored. 🌐🔒
Can I change the names of the columns to match our restaurant's vibe?
Absolutely! If you are using the status view layout, the Preparing and Ready header labels are 100% editable. Feel free to re-label them to fun match phrases like "In the Kitchen" and "Come Get It!" in your portal settings. ✍️
Can one board show dine-in orders alongside takeout orders?
The board will display any order type you tell it to track. When configuring your board card in the NX Portal, simply check the boxes next to all the service streams you want to show up on that specific screen.
