Shift Handoff: Pausing and Closing a Cash Tray at the POS π΅π
Closing your Cash Tray is the final step in ensuring your physical cash matches your digital sales. However, in a fast-paced environment, you may not always have time to count your drawer the second your shift ends. NX Restaurant allows you to Pause a tray, allowing the next employee to start their own session immediately while you count your cash in the back.
The "Shift Swap" Workflow π
When one employee is signing off a drawer and another is coming in behind them, follow this workflow to keep the line moving:
Departing Employee: Pauses their tray. This "freezes" their sales data and releases the physical drawer for the next person.
Incoming Employee: Starts a New Tray on that same drawer with their own starting bank.
Departing Employee: Counts their cash and officially Closes the paused tray whenever they are ready.
Step 1: Pausing for a Handoff βΈοΈ
If you are finished taking sales but aren't ready to count your cash yet:
Navigate to Cash Trays from the sidebar menu.
Tap the Pause button next to your active tray.
The status will change to an orange Paused badge. The physical drawer is now available for a new tray to be opened by the next staff member.
Step 2: Finalizing a Paused Tray π
When you are ready to perform your final count:
Return to the Cash Trays menu.
Locate your tray (Status: Paused).
Tap the red Close Tray button.
Step 3: Enter the Ending Balance π’
NX provides a detailed "Denomination" worksheet to help you count accurately.
Enter the Quantity (Qty) for each bill and coin type.
The system automatically calculates the Total at the bottom.
Once the physical count is complete, tap the red Close Tray button.
Step 4: Confirm and Review Report β π
Final Confirmation: Tap Close Tray again on the confirmation prompt to lock in the numbers.
The Report: A Cash Tray Report will automatically print to your station printer.
This report highlights your Over/Short amount by comparing your manual count against the systemβs expected total (including Cash In, Paid Outs, and Tips Out).
Need Help? π‘
Can someone else take sales on my tray while it's Paused?
No. Once a tray is paused, no further transactions can be recorded against it. It is effectively "frozen" until it is counted and closed.
I paused the wrong tray.
A paused tray can be resumed or edited by a manager if a mistake was made before the final count was submitted.
My shift is over, but I'm still assigned to the drawer.
You must Pause or Close your tray before the system will allow you to fully clock out or before another employee can start a fresh tray on that same station.
