Cash Tray: How to Close a Cash Tray in the NX Portal ๐ต๐
At the end of a shift or business day, closing your Cash Tray is the final step in ensuring your finances are balanced. While this is usually done at the station, managers have the flexibility to close any open tray directly from the NX Portal.
Step-by-Step: Closing a Tray ๐
To finalize a cash session and view your over/short report, follow these steps:
Locate the Open Tray: In the NX Portal, navigate to Financial > Cash Trays.
Open the Tray Details: Click on the tray you wish to close (marked with a green OPEN status) to open the side management panel.
Initiate Close: Click the Close Tray button at the bottom of the side panel.
Enter the Ending Balance: You have two ways to record the cash in the drawer:
Enter Denominations: Use this tab to enter the count for each bill and coin (e.g., how many $20s, $10s, etc.). NX will calculate the total for you.
Enter Amount: Use this tab if you have already counted the cash and just want to type in a single flat total (e.g., $214.25).
Finalize: Review the Starting Balance vs. the Ending Balance shown at the bottom of the window. Click Close Tray โ to confirm.
Viewing the Results & Printing ๐จ๏ธ
Once the tray is closed, NX immediately calculates the Over/Short amount.
The Summary: A confirmation screen will show you the final Ending Balance and whether the drawer was over or short.
Print Closing Report (Optional): To keep a physical record for your end-of-day paperwork, select a printer from the dropdown menu and click Print Report. If you prefer to go paperless, simply click Skip.
After the Tray is Closed ๐
Once a tray is moved to CLOSED status:
The status badge in the main list will turn red.
Assigned employees are released from the tray and can be assigned to a new one if their shift is continuing.
The final data is pushed to your Accounting and Financial Reports.

I made a mistake in the count after I hit "Close Tray."
Once a tray is closed, the record is finalized for security. You can add an Internal Note to the tray record in the portal to explain the discrepancy for your accounting team.
I don't see the "Close Tray" button.
You must have the Cash Tray: Close permission assigned to your user profile to finalize a tray session.
Does closing the tray also "Tip Out" my servers?
No. Closing the tray records that the money has left the drawer, but you should still follow your standard procedure for physically distributing those tips to your staff.
